This painting by Howe was completed in about 1811 and shows Mr Fleming seated on his horse with his hooded falcon on his fist. With him is his falconer, James Anderson, considered one of the last of the old Scottish falconers, Andersons assistant George Harvey and an assortment of dogs. The red and white spaniels, forerunners of the Welsh Springer Spaniel, have been depicted in falconry paintings since 15th century
