Signed and dated 1853 Oil on canvas 28 x 36 ins This painting shows the end of a successful course at the Beacon Hill meeting in October 1848. The mounted judge can be seen in the distance on a grey horse and in the foreground with the two dogs, Brilliant and Leeway, are a kennel boy, the winning dog's owner holding the hare and a trainer. An engraving from the painting by E Hacker appeared as a frontispiece to 'The Greyhound' by 'Stonehenge', first published in 1853.
