A young boy with a progressive neurological disease saw his doggy dreams come true after being granted a golden ticket to Crufts 2025.
Frankie Sheridan-Hill, 9 from Ware, lives with HABC Leukodystrophy, which is a life-limiting neurological disease that affects the white matter of the brain and impacts his everyday life.
His family are intent on making as many memories as possible in their time together and were thrilled to be invited to the world's biggest dog show in Birmingham, through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, to achieve his dream of cuddling as many dogs as possible.
'We're at Crufts and I love all dogs but my favourite are little dogs, he said. I love cuddling dogs.'
Frankie was accompanied to Crufts by his parents and brother, and mum Amy was overjoyed to see her son recieve an invitation, thanking The Kennel Club and Make-A-Wish for making Freddie's dreams come to life.
'Frankie's physiotherapy applied to Make-A-Wish for us and when it was his turn they asked what he liked and what he liked doing and he immediately said dogs.
'He's obsessed with dogs and so we knew it would be that.
'They got in contact with someone at the National Animal Welfare Trust and they had a contact at The Kennel Club and so we decided to get them into Crufts.
'Frankie has been really excited about this and to be able to enjoy it now whilst he still has his speech and mobility is incredibly important to us, it's a treat to come together as a family and do this.'
The Sheridan-Hill family got their own dog Dottie, a Schnauzer and poodle mix last year and the pup has since become a best friend to Frankie, even sleeping on his and brother Rory's beds in their shared room at home.
'Frankie has always wanted a dog and so, even though we love bigger dogs, we decided to get one that was a little smaller so they could sleep on the bed and on someone's lap.
'Dogs are really calm around him. Dogs in the street will often naturally come up to Frankie and he's always stroking them.
'It's something he's always loved, it's a really simple relationship.'
Not only able to attend Crufts this year, Frankie was also able to hand out a couple of rosettes in the good citizen ring, getting to meet and greet a whole host of different breeds across the day.
A spokesperson for The Kennel Club, which runs Crufts, was thrilled to be able to give Frankie the expereince of a lifetime at Crufts.
They said: Crufts is about all about our love of dogs and the joy that dogs bring into our lives. It is a place where dreams can come true and we've seen this, heartwarmingly, with Frankie. He is an incredible boy and they are a wonderful family.
'It is so incredibly humbling to watch those special moments unfolding before our eyes, where we see the pleasure that dogs bring us and the difference they make, and there really is no place in the world like Crufts to see and feel the magic of that special bond.
